The Wayne State University men’s golf team was selected on May 6 to participate in the NCAA Midwest/Central Super Regional, marking its 18th appearance since 2004. The Warriors will compete as the ninth seed from Thursday, May 7 through Saturday, May 9 at Ferris State’s Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Michigan.
This tournament is significant for Wayne State as it offers an opportunity for the team to advance further into postseason play and showcase their skills against top regional competition. The event brings together leading programs from across the Midwest and Central regions.
Head coach Mike Horn said, “We are looking to have a breakout week this week. The boys are really starting to play well. Congratulations to Josh Lahner who was medalist yesterday at Plum Hollow in the US Open local qualifying. He was the only player under par in the field of 100 players. We had a number of scores under par today at practice and are looking to take that to the NCAA Super Regional starting on Thursday. We are poised to break out and really show the rest of the region what we are capable of. We’ve got a number of players that have won at this level and we’ve got a number of players who have experience playing Katke.”
The format includes twenty teams and eight individuals competing from non-qualifying teams within each super regional section—Atlantic/East, Central/Midwest, South/Southeast, and South Central/West—with three teams and two individual student-athletes advancing from each regional group to finals held later in Boulder City, Nevada.
Wayne State’s lineup features Andrew Daily (Brighton), Josh Lahner (Roselle), Troy Chapman (Lexington), Jack Julian (South Lyon), Will Pollack (Grand Rapids), with Luke Maher (Fort Gratiot) as substitute. They will face competitors such as Grand Valley State (#5 SCOREBOARD National Ranking) along with several other ranked programs.
The Wayne State Warriors Men’s Golf holds membership in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and participates in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics according to their official website. The team operates from Detroit, Michigan according to information provided by the official website.
Looking ahead, if successful at regionals, Wayne State could progress toward national finals scheduled for May 18–22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
