Wayne State University’s men’s tennis team concluded their spring break trip with a 4-0 defeat against Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida. The Warriors, ranked No. 14, faced the No. 2-ranked Flagler team on Tuesday afternoon.

In doubles competition, Cedric Drenth and George Day secured the only victory for Wayne State by defeating Makary Adamek and Filip Kana with a score of 6-2. Meanwhile, Iliam Borlee and Simon Malis won against Sam Knowles and Tom Wasner 6-0 in the No. 2 position. In the No. 3 spot, Benjamin Hill and Luis Klaus were narrowly defeated by Baptiste Mercier and Aly El Rafie with a score of 7-6 (7-3).

In singles play, George Day lost to Simon Malis in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Tom Wasner was unable to maintain his early lead in the second set against Borlee after losing the first set; he ultimately fell 6-1, 6-3. Luis Klaus started strong against Kana but could not sustain his momentum, losing both sets at scores of 6-4 and 6-1 respectively.

The matches involving Drenth, Hill, and Knowles did not reach completion.

The Wayne State men’s tennis team will next compete at home on Thursday, March 20th against Tiffin University at the Doris J. & Donald L. Duchene Sr. Athletic Facility.
