Wayne State University’s men’s tennis team is preparing to host Hillsdale College on March 1. The match will take place at the Doris J. & Donald L. Duchene, Sr. Athletic Facility, starting at noon.

Hillsdale College, known as the Chargers, currently holds a record of three wins and four losses this season before their upcoming game against Indiana Tech University on February 28. Throughout the season, Hillsdale has faced four members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), losing to Michigan Tech University, Lake Superior State University, Davenport University, and Ferris State University.

Keith Turner is leading the Chargers in his tenth season as head coach. Under his leadership, Hillsdale has achieved a record of 103-74 and won two Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament Championships in 2018 and 2021, with an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2021.

The Wayne State men’s tennis team remains ranked No. 13 nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the second consecutive week. They are joined by Ferris State as the only GLIAC members in the national rankings.

In their last outing on February 23, Wayne State suffered its first loss of the spring season against Western Michigan University with a score of 5-2. Despite winning the doubles point with victories from George Day and Cedric Drenth as well as Sam Knowles and Tom Wasner, they managed to secure only one singles win by Benjamin Hill.

Following their match against Hillsdale College, Wayne State will travel to Florida for their annual spring break tour where they will compete in five matches from March 5-11 against teams ranked in Division II’s top ten.
