The Wayne State University men’s tennis team secured a narrow 4-3 victory over Northwood University in Midland, Michigan. This win brings the Warriors’ season record to an undefeated 5-0.

In doubles play, Wayne State won two out of three matches to earn the doubles point. George Day and Cedric Drenth were defeated 6-3 by Sergio Lopez Guillen and Alessandro Parigi in the No. 1 position. However, Sam Knowles and Tom Wasner claimed a 7-5 victory against Juan Perez Garcia and Max Wild in the No. 2 slot. Benjamin Hill and Luis Klaus delivered a strong performance in the No. 3 spot, defeating Finn Buschmaas and Luis Adrian Gomez Tinoco with a decisive 6-0 score.

The singles matches saw mixed results for Wayne State’s top players. Drenth, Day, and Klaus each suffered losses in their respective matches. Drenth lost in a close match with scores of 6-2, 4-6, and 0-1 (7-10). Day was defeated with scores of 3-6, 6-7 (2-7), while Klaus fell short with scores of 5-7, 0-6.

Wasner achieved a convincing win at No. 4 singles by overcoming Finn Buschmaas with scores of 6-1, 6-1. In the No. 5 position, Hill triumphed over Juan Perez Garcia with scores of 6-1, 6-4. Knowles rounded off the singles victories for Wayne State by defeating Luis Adrian Gomez Tinoco at No. 6 singles with scores of 6-3, 6-0.

Looking ahead, the Wayne State men’s tennis team will face Western Michigan University on Sunday at Sorensen Courts in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
