The Wayne State University men’s tennis team has received the Warrior Plate award for the 2024-25 academic year. The announcement was made at the university’s Department of Athletics fall kickoff meeting in Detroit.

The Warrior Plate is given to the sports team that best combines academic achievement, community service, and competitive success. This marks the fourth time in nine years that the men’s tennis program has won or shared this recognition.

The men’s tennis team recorded the highest team grade point average in both the fall (3.795) and winter (3.834) semesters. In terms of community service hours per student athlete, they ranked second in the department, behind only women’s basketball.

Competitively, the program advanced to the NCAA Tournament for a fourth consecutive season.

Men’s tennis accumulated 1,345 points to finish ahead of women’s cross country, which earned 1,307.5 points. Women’s basketball placed third with 1,235 points and was followed by women’s track and field (1,195), women’s swimming/diving (1,077.5), women’s tennis (1,060), and volleyball (1,050). The top ten also included women’s golf (925), baseball (915), and softball (865).

Previous winners of the Warrior Plate include women’s cross country in 2023-24; a shared win between men’s tennis and women’s cross country in 2022-23; women’s basketball in 2021-22; women’s tennis for a combined 2019-20/2020-21 period; softball in 2018-19 and 2016-17; men’s tennis in 2017-18 and 2015-16; women’s fencing in 2014-15; and softball again in 2013-14.
