The Wayne State University (WSU) women’s swimming and diving team is preparing for the 2024-25 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships. The event will be held from Wednesday, February 19 to Saturday, February 22 at the Holland Community Aquatic Center in Holland, Michigan.

Historically, WSU has been a strong contender in the GLIAC Championships, finishing either first or second in 18 of the last 19 years. In 2021, they placed third. The Warriors have secured 11 GLIAC titles during this period and won a NCAA Division II National Championship in 2012.

Sean Peters, head coach of the WSU Swimming and Diving programs for 28 years, has been recognized as the GLIAC Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year ten times over his career.

Several WSU athletes are ranked within the top ten of their respective events heading into the championships. Notable performances include Sabine Branford ranking fifth in the 50 free with a time of 23.77 seconds and Barbara Munoz ranking fourth in both the 100 free and third in the 1000 free. Alli Vassilakos holds first place rankings in both the 1000 free and 1650 free events.

In relay events, WSU’s teams are also well-positioned with top four rankings across multiple categories including the 200 free relay and the 400 medley relay.

The team’s preparations indicate a strong showing at this year’s championships as they aim to add another title to their impressive history.
