The Wayne State University women’s outdoor track and field team competed in two events on Friday. The team had one woman and six men participate in the Washington University Distance Carnival, and four sprinters/hurdlers competed at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational.

At the Washington University Distance Carnival, Natalie Davies, a senior from Chelsea, Michigan, finished 96th in the women’s 10,000m with a time of 42:43.70. On the men’s side, six athletes represented Wayne State in the 10,000m. Sean Pettis, a freshman from Fremont, Michigan, placed 78th clocking 31:32.24, followed by Jared Platt, Ethan Pruzinsky, Griffin Conway, Gabe Trevino, and Anthony Vinson who finished 110th, 124th, 140th, 149th, and 158th respectively.

In Texas, at the Bobcat Invitational, Keneisha Thomas, a redshirt sophomore from Madison Heights, Michigan, set a new school record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.59, surpassing her previous record by 0.39 seconds. Her performance landed her in the 19th position. Other participants included Makenzie Wellner and Megan Zahnow, who finished 32nd and 42nd respectively in the 400m hurdles. Hanne Bastiaansen, a junior from Tessenderlo, Belgium, competed in the 200m dash Section A, finishing 32nd with a time of 24.76.

Looking ahead, Wayne State is set to have a larger portion of its team compete on Saturday at the Cedarville Yellow Jacket Open. Nine student-athletes will continue their participation in the Texas State Bobcat Invitational.
