Three student-athletes from Wayne State University have been honored with College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District recognition. The announcement, made by the organization, highlighted achievements in the “At-Large” category, which includes sports such as fencing and golf.
To qualify for nomination, student-athletes must be sophomores or higher both academically and athletically. Additionally, they must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale.
The recognized athletes include sophomore foilist Sam Gneuhs from Mason, Ohio, junior epee fencer Bryce Heim from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and redshirt senior golfer Ian Smith from Canton, Michigan.
Gneuhs has achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.81 in Sport Management and was named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team during his first eligible year. He participated in six events as a sophomore with an overall record of 22-41.
Heim holds a cumulative GPA of 3.91 in Chemistry Honors and is now a two-time member of the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team. During his third season at WSU, he appeared in six events with an overall record of 40-36.
Smith has earned several academic accolades including four appearances on the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team and three CSC Academic All-District distinctions. He competed in 12 out of 13 tournaments this past season with a scoring average of 74.23 over 30 rounds while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.53 in Marketing.
