Two members of the Wayne State University women’s tennis team have been honored with Academic All-District recognition by College Sports Communicators. Graduate student Anais Ruyssen and junior Shanice Weekes were acknowledged for their achievements both on the court and in academics.

Ruyssen, from Nantes, France, is receiving this honor for the third consecutive year. She was named CSC D2 Women’s Tennis Academic All-American of the Year last year and was a CSC Third Team Academic All-American in 2022-23. Ruyssen has been voted GLIAC Player of the Year three times over four years (2022, 2024, and 2025). This season she holds an 11-4 singles record, bringing her career mark at WSU to 82-29 while playing first singles all four years. Her doubles record stands at 24-8 this season, improving her all-time doubles mark to 94-39. She ranks fifth in school history for singles wins and third for doubles victories. Ruyssen earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance with a cumulative GPA of 3.78 and currently holds a GPA of 3.50 in her MBA program.

Weekes, from London, England, receives this honor for the second consecutive year. She recently won five consecutive doubles matches at the third flight alongside Martyna Szpakowska. Over the fall portion of the schedule, Weekes played doubles with four different partners compiling an overall record of 11-5. Her singles record improved to 49-13 after playing primarily sixth singles during her first two years at WSU. Weekes maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.91 while majoring in World Languages, Literatures and Cultures.

The WSU women’s tennis team won the GLIAC Regular-Season Championship with an undefeated conference record but fell short against Grand Valley State in the league tournament final match. The Warriors are currently hosting an NCAA Regional against Tiffin today; they aim to advance to the Sweet Sixteen in Florida next week.
