The Wayne State University women’s indoor track and field team is preparing to compete in the 2025 GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The event will take place at Saginaw Valley State University on Saturday and Sunday. This marks the 13th time that the Warriors have participated in these championships, with hopes of securing a top-two finish for the first time in their history. Previously, Wayne State achieved its best result with a third-place finish in 2022 and accumulated its highest point total of 81 points in 2023, finishing fourth.

Coach Lofdahl expressed optimism about the team’s prospects: “This indoor track season has been a very good one for our team, and they can make it a truly special season if they compete to the best of their ability this weekend. Grand Valley as always will be a heavy favorite, and Northern Michigan, Parkside, and Saginaw Valley will be very tough as well.”

The coach further emphasized their objectives: “Our program bests currently stand at third place and 81 points, and the goal is to eclipse both of those marks this weekend. We certainly also hope to crown some GLIAC event champions, and to break a few more school records on the way to achieving our other goals.”

Wayne State’s lineup for the championship includes participants across various events such as sprints, distance races, relays, hurdles, jumps, shot put, and weight throw. Key athletes include Hanne Bastiaansen in sprint events like the 60m dash where she holds a school record set in 2024.

Finals are scheduled for Saturday in several categories including the 5,000m race and long jump. Remaining finals will occur on Sunday.
