The Wayne State University women’s golf team will continue its postseason run at the NCAA East Regional, beginning May 4 in Findlay, Ohio. The Warriors were selected as the 14th seed for their eighth consecutive appearance at this event, according to a May 3 announcement.

This selection marks another milestone for the program and reflects ongoing success for Wayne State Warriors Women’s Golf, which is affiliated with Wayne State University, according to the official website. The regional tournament offers teams a chance to advance further into national competition.

Head coach Larry Hamilton said, “We always look forward to regionals and I couldn’t be more proud of this team and how they’ve competed all spring. We’ve had to start only four players in each of our tournaments this spring, which means every round, every score counts. They’ve embraced that challenge and have shown a lot of mental toughness. Findlay Country Club is a great course that we are very familiar with and are really looking forward to playing again.”

Wayne State Warriors Women’s Golf participates in intercollegiate athletics at the NCAA Division II level within the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, according to the official website. The regional format includes four tournaments across different regions (East, Central, South, West), with top-performing teams advancing to championship finals after three rounds of play.

The team’s lineup features Sonia Bayahya (Casablanca), Amiyah Gibson (Battle Creek), Ting-Yu Kuo (Taipei), and Clara Laffitte (Montevideo). Other schools competing include nationally ranked programs such as Findlay (#4) and Grand Valley State (#18).

Wayne State Warriors Women’s Golf operates out of Detroit, Michigan, according to the official website. As regional tournaments serve as preliminary rounds for national championships under standard policies, both teams and individuals will vie for advancement through playoffs or tiebreakers if necessary.
