The Wayne State University women’s indoor track and field team has released its schedule for the 2025-26 season. Head coach Grant Lofdahl, now in his ninth year, shared details about the upcoming competitions and highlighted the team’s large roster.
“We have our biggest roster ever this year, with a large freshman class and a lot of experienced veterans as well,” said Lofdahl. “The coaching staff put together a schedule that will hopefully balance the two factors of maximizing competitive opportunities for everyone, and also giving our top athletes some elite competition with chances to hit NCAA qualifying marks at some key meets.”
Lofdahl explained that this year’s schedule includes both familiar events and new venues for most team members. “This year blends a mix of familiar meets like the SVSU (Saginaw Valley State University) Holiday Open and the Findlay Alumni Classic with (to most of the team) new venues such as NMU’s (Northern Michigan University) Superior Dome and U of M’s (University of Michigan) new indoor track. Our biggest meets will include the Midwest Classic at the Indiana State Fairgrounds track, site of last year’s NCAA Championships, and GVSU’s (Grand Valley State University) Big Meet which is always highly competitive.”
He also noted an important feature in this season’s schedule: “One unique aspect of this season’s schedule is that we will compete on all three varieties of indoor tracks: 200m flat, 300m, and 200m banked. With the GLIAC meet being on a 300 and the NCAA meet on a banked track, we felt this was important to prepare our team. We have 55 hard-working Warriors and are excited to see what they will accomplish this season!”
The team’s first event is scheduled for Friday, December 5 at the SVSU Holiday Open before winter exams begin. The Warriors resume competition in January with participation in events such as the Findlay Alumni Classic on January 16 and return to Saginaw Valley State University for additional meets.
Later in January, Wayne State will compete at both the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis—held at last year’s NCAA Championship venue—and SVSU Jet’s Pizza Invite for those not traveling to Indiana.
In February, athletes will travel to Marquette for the W-C-W Invitational at Northern Michigan University’s Superior Dome before heading west across Michigan for Grand Valley State University’s Big Meet over Valentine’s Day weekend.
On February 20, squad members will split between competing at Michigan’s Silverston Invitational or SVSU Tune-Up. The GLIAC Indoor Championships are set for February 28-March 1 at Saginaw Valley State University.
The season concludes with select athletes aiming to qualify for nationals at the NCAA Indoor Championships held March 13-14 in Virginia Beach.
