The Wayne State University women’s basketball team has been recognized with the WBCA Academic Special Mention, as announced earlier today. The Warriors achieved a 3.604 team grade-point average for the 2024-25 academic year, placing them 41st out of 300 NCAA Division II women’s basketball programs and second among the 11 GLIAC schools.

Among the top performers were Annabel Ayrault, Ashley Bower, Alyssa Leister, Ally Shagena, and Shea Tripp, each earning a perfect 4.00 GPA for the academic year.

The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) also announced its Academic Top 25 Team Honor Rolls for various divisions. “The WBCA is pleased to recognize those women’s basketball programs that have committed themselves to excellence on the court and in the classroom,” said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew.

University of Wisconsin-Green Bay led NCAA Division I with a cumulative GPA of 3.862, while St. Cloud State topped NCAA Division II with a GPA of 3.892.

The WBCA recognizes college women’s basketball teams nationwide that maintain high combined GPAs across all student-athletes for an entire season. This year’s recognition marks Wayne State’s fourth consecutive year achieving at least a 3.5 GPA collectively.
