DETROIT — Wayne State University’s women’s tennis team clinched the GLIAC regular season title after defeating Ferris State University 7-0. The Warriors, ranked 28th, finished the season with an 8-0 record in GLIAC matches. The victory secured their second consecutive year without a loss in conference play.

The match began with recognition for senior player Anais Ruyssen. In doubles, Wayne State won all three matches. Ruyssen and Dea Gorgidze secured a 6-4 win in the No. 1 position. Malak Arafat and Justine Beaulieu took the No. 2 doubles spot with a 6-2 victory. Shanice Weekes and Martyna Szpakowska also won their match 6-2.

In singles, Ruyssen celebrated her senior day with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 1 position. Arafat dominated in the No. 2 slot with a 6-0, 6-1 victory, and Gorgidze won 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 3 position. Weekes and Shantala Uzcategui also claimed victories in the No. 4 and No. 6 slots. Beaulieu finished with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 comeback in the No. 5 slot.

The Wayne State Warriors will compete in the GLIAC Tournament’s first round on April 25.
