Wayne State University’s women’s indoor track and field team is currently in fifth place with 22 points after the first day of the 2025 GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships held at University Center, Michigan. This performance ties the record for the most points scored by a Wayne State squad on the opening day of GLIACs, matching a mark set in 2015.

The current team standings are led by Grand Valley State with 57 points. Parkside and Northern Michigan are tied for second place with 29 points each, followed by Saginaw Valley in fourth with 26 points.

In individual events, Sasha-Gay Thompson finished seventh in the preliminaries of the 60m dash with a time of 7.77 seconds. Hanne Bastiaansen secured fourth place in the preliminaries of the 200m dash clocking in at 24.92 seconds, while Avery Wilson placed fourth in the preliminaries of the 400m dash with a time of 57.25 seconds.

Reagan Justice achieved first place in the 5,000m event with a time of 16:56.52, earning an NCAA provisional qualification and contributing ten points to Wayne State’s score. Annalee Misch added three more points by finishing sixth in the same event.

The distance medley relay team composed of Emily Gordon, Makenzie Wellner, Rachel Felstow, and Taylor Hopkins finished third with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 11:53.59, earning six additional points for Wayne State.

Annabelle Smith contributed two points from her seventh-place finish in long jump with a leap of 5.33 meters.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s finals, competitions will be held across multiple events including mile run, hurdles, dashes ranging from short sprints to longer distances like the 3,000m race as well as relays and various field events such as high jump and shot put.
