State Sen. Peter J. Lucido (R-Shelby Township) is hoping that legislation he recently supported that seeks to restore funds in the 2020 state budget that were previously trimmed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is just a starting point.

“While I have been critical of Gov. Whitmer’s budget vetoes and administrative board transfer trickery, I have also stated my willingness to work together to reverse those cuts to restore vital funding that was needlessly taken from so many programs and services that our people rely on daily,” Lucido said in a release on his website.

Schools, police departments, hospitals drug treatment programs and veterans were all affected by Whitmer’s veto, a reality Lucido is now hoping to put in his rearview mirror with Senate passage of the new bills.

“...I am hopeful that the governor will do the right thing and sign them when they reach her desk so we can get Michigan back moving in the right direction,” he said in the release.

The Senate approved supplemental appropriations legislation on Dec. 4.
