Since schools have closed their doors in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, many throughout the nation have remained busy ensuring students are fed. For Gladwin Community Schools, this has created a specific need.
Rep. Jason Wentworth (R-Farwell) has placed his office in communication with the public school system, according to his Facebook post, in an effort to appeal to the public for a donation of plastic or paper bags.
The school district’s food service department is handing out over 10,000 meals a week, and this has resulted in a shortage of bags to pack meals in for distribution. Those wanting to contribute to Gladwin Community Schools are asked to provide either paper or plastic bags that are in new condition. Local businesses interested in making a donation and providing a helping hand to the local students can contact Sharon Kennedy, the director of food service, at 989-426-3288. She can help coordinate a pickup of supplies.
