State Sen. Pete Lucido (R-Dist. 8) recently shared a Detroit News editorial criticizing Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s decision to veto bipartisan legislation aimed at improving Michigan’s COVID-19-related nursing home policies, and added some points of his own.
Protecting the lives and health of the state’s nursing home residents is not a political issue, Lucido said in a post on his Facebook page. “People regardless of their political stances are pleading with the Governor to change her policy. Other states have because it is what will save lives.”
He encouraged his constituents to share the editorial and get the word out about Whitmer’s refusal to work with the legislature to create a better policy.
The legislation that Whitmer vetoed would have prevented hospitalized nursing home residents who tested positive for COVID-19 from being returned to their resident nursing home prior to recovering, the editorial said. Instead, a dedicated facility would be created where coronavirus patients would be cared for.
