Milloy: Even if Biden banned all fracking, there would be no environmental benefit

While it may not be the hottest of the topics that separate President Donald Trump from former Vice President Joe Biden, their differing opinions on climate change and regulation of the energy industry remains one of the many distinguishing characteristics between the presidential candidates.

Steve Milloy, a former member of the Trump-Pence EPA Transition Team and founder of JunkScience.com, recently appeared on WJR’s "The Frank Beckmann Show" to discuss Biden’s hard-line position against fracking.

Milloy told Beckmann that, throughout the Democratic primary season, Biden repeatedly stated he wants to ban fracking entirely. But he changed that stance after becoming the party’s nominee.

“He changed his tune, and now he’s not going to ban fracking. Of course, this is a very important issue for a swing state like Pennsylvania, but, you know, Michigan, too,” Milloy told Beckmann.

While Biden would not have the power to ban fracking if he is elected president, he could effectively "kill it," Milloy told Beckmann. Milloy said Biden, as president, could have a similar effect on fracking to what former President Barack Obama did to the coal industry.

Ultimately, the U.S. is a “very small part” of worldwide greenhouse gas emissions, according to Milloy.

“The United States could go offline, stay dark for the rest of this century, and atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations would hardly change,” Milloy told Beckmann. “So what would be the point? We would just be, you know, reducing our standard of living, raising the cost of energy. It would be a total self-inflicted wound."

Even if the U.S. were to completely eliminate greenhouse gas emissions at this point in time, Milloy claimed there would simply be no noticeable difference.

“There would be no benefit: the weather would not be better, the climate would not be better, the environment would not be cleaner. It’s just total nonsense,” Milloy told Beckmann.
