City of Grosse Pointe issued the following announcement on Dec. 11.

Grosse Pointe City Hall and Municipal Court is currently closed to the public until December 20 but fully operational with COVID-19 precautions in place.  The City requests that you conduct your City business online, by mail, email, or phone.  There is a newly installed drop box at the entrance to City Hall to simply and easily drop off payments, absentee ballots, or other City related documents without having to go inside.   Thank you for your cooperation in trying to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  The full updated City Hall plan is stated below:

The Grosse Pointe City Hall has implemented physical changes that are intended to comply with recommended COVID-19 precautions including:

• A new drop box in front of the City Hall entryway is for people to use who are just dropping off payments, absentee ballots or documents 
• COVID-19 precautions signage
• Social distancing stickers on the floor for visitors
• Stanchions in place to separate visitors
• Chairs have been removed from lobby
• Hand sanitizing dispensers installed at entrance/exit and conference room
• Dividers placed between staff desks and guards on counters. 

There will be COVID-19 procedural precautions in place including:

• Employees will be wearing City provided masks (and gloves depending on the task)
• Visitors must also wear masks (their own or masks are provided in the vestibule; if needed)
• Breaks and lunches will be staggered
• Shared equipment will be avoided or eliminated wherever possible
• Cleaning and sanitizing of shared and frequently used equipment and workspaces between uses such as the copier and cash register
• Employees and visitors will follow proper sanitizing practices such as hand washing and maintenance of six foot social distancing
• Bathroom cleaning has been increased to daily  
• Packages and deliveries will be left in in the vestibule
• There will be no people except staff and City contractors behind the public counters at City Hall
• Meetings will only occur in the conference room, and in advance, by appointment only.  Employees will continue to use electronic meetings whenever possible  
• City staff will use the non-public side entrances to maintain social distancing
• Individuals who can work from home are still encouraged to do so with the permission of the City Manager
• Employees are required to do a self health check every day before coming in to work, and are instructed not come in to work if not feeling well. 
• Employee health screenings will be conducted and logged and tracked daily.
• All employees must complete COVID-19 testing before returning to work from furlough or working from home.  

 

The Parks and Recreation office at Neff Park will remain closed to allow it to be used solely for social distancing of staff.  On the City website, there is a schedule of days that park pass appointments are being taken for outside the park office.  The Neff Park Pool and Marina are closed for the season.  Public restrooms at Neff Park are also currently closed for the season. The Neff Park playground is open but six foot social distance should be maintained and caution exercised in its use as the equipment is not sanitized.

The NEW Public Safety building is open at the front lobby located at 17320 Mack Avenue.  The Grosse Pointe Municipal Court is also open to the public at City Hall, following rules reviewed and approved by the State Supreme Court.  The court has resumed court sessions at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Maumee Avenue, across from City Hall.  Court sessions will still be conducted as much as possible via teleconference.

If an active employee is identified with a confirmed case of COVID-19, the City will immediately notify the local public health department, and within 24 hours, notify any co-workers, contractors, or suppliers who may have come into contact with the person with a confirmed case of COVID-19. The City will send employees in the affected areas home and temporarily close to allow for immediate deep cleaning by an outside firm if an employee is found to have contracted COVID-19

The City will allow employees with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 to return to the workplace only after they are no longer infectious according to the latest guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) and they are released from any quarantine or isolation by the local public health department.

The City will be following guidance and requirements from the CDC and the State of Michigan to try to maintain as safe of a workplace as possible.  If you have any questions about these precautions, or have any suggestions or issues with the adequacy of proposed safety measures, those issues or concerns should be reported to the City Manager.  The directors of the respective departments (Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Public Safety, Court and Finance) will be responsible for the supervision of these protocols within their departments.
