DPW Yard open Aug. 14 and Aug. 21 for drop off of bulky trash

Bulk

City of Dearborn issued the following announcement on Aug. 4.

As an additional service for residents, the DPW Yard will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14 and Aug. 21 for disposal of flood damaged items and other bulk materials not picked up at the curb. The DPW yard is at 2951 Greenfield.

Proof of Dearborn residency is required. Residents must remove items from their vehicles by themselves.

For August only, the DPW yard will be accepting trailers with material to accommodate those with flood-damaged items. Trailers are normally not allowed.

The City cannot accept bulk debris from businesses, apartments or commercial operations at the DPW Yard.

No hazardous materials are permitted at the curb or at the DPW yard.

The DPW Yard is usually open the third Saturday of each month, and is operating on additional days in August to give residents affected by the June flooding another option to dispose of damaged materials. All residents are welcome to dispose of bulk materials, even if they are not flood-damaged.

In September, the DPW Yard will return to its normal schedule of every third Saturday, which will be Sept. 18.

People may want to take advantage of the DPW yard being open because the City of Dearborn will be returning to its normal trash pickup routine beginning the week of Aug. 9. Bulk items will still be collected at the curb, as has always been the case. But construction materials will no longer be allowed. Excessive amounts of material may require a special pickup, which are subject to fees. For more information on special pickups, residents may call 313-943-2150.
