Northville Township - MI issued the following announcement on Dec. 20.
We have a hero in our midst. Northville Township Fire Chief Brent Siegel honored Heather Brown at Thursday’s Board of Trustees meeting for her actions while participating in a race recently at Maybury State Park .
Ms. Brown witnessed another runner collapse in front of her; he was in cardiac arrest. While someone dialed 911, Ms. Brown, who is an oncology nurse with Michigan Medicine , began CPR. Northville Township Police arrived on the scene first, and Officer McArthur defibrillated the patient using the AED in his patrol vehicle. Our paramedics arrived next, continuing patient care while transporting him to Ascension Providence Park in Novi.
Chief Siegel called the patient’s family the follow day to check on him. Eight days later the patient, Daniel Prather, called back himself. Not only was the Chief speaking with a survivor, but he was already back home.
Community heroes, in collaboration with the Northville Township Public Safety team, are the reason why Northville Township has a cardiac arrest survival rate that is THREE times the rest of the state and country.
Chief Siegel presented Ms. Brown with a Civilian Life Saving Award for saving a complete stranger’s life. Without her immediate action, Mr. Prather’s outcome may have been substantially different.
Thank you, Ms. Brown! Please help us congratulate her heroism.
