Wayne State women’s volleyball falls to Ferris State in first home loss of season

Wayne State University's women's volleyball team experienced its first home defeat of the 2025 season, falling to No. 15-ranked Ferris State in straight sets at the Matthaei Center on Friday night. The loss brings Wayne State's overall record to 16-5 and their conference mark to 8-3 in the GLIAC.

The match scores were 24-26, 16-25, and 23-25. Wayne State recorded a .152 hitting percentage with 46 kills and 23 errors over 151 attacks. Ferris State posted a .193 hitting percentage, finishing with 37 kills and 14 errors on 119 attempts. Despite holding their opponent below a .200 hitting average for only the second time this season, Wayne State was unable to secure the win.

Kayla Giroux led all players with 12 kills, while Katerina Stout added 10 kills for Wayne State. Stout reached double-digit kills for the fourth time this year and hit .391 in the match. Kayla Dulgar contributed six kills and one error on her way to a .333 hitting percentage, as well as dishing out a team-high 33 assists.

Defensively, Dulgar earned her seventh double-double of the season by leading the team with 13 digs. Lauren Essenpreis and Abby Macalaguim each collected 12 digs. At the net, Giroux tallied three blocks including one solo block.

Kendyl Andrews registered Wayne State’s only service ace of the night.

Looking ahead, Wayne State is set to host Davenport on Saturday at 4 p.m., where they will honor seniors Abby Macalaguim, Leigha Baldwin, Kendyl Andrews, and Kayla Giroux during Senior Day celebrations.
