The Wayne State University women's golf team is set to commence its 2024-25 season at the Midwest Ladies Collegiate, hosted by UMSL. The event will take place on September 9-10 at Rock Hollow Golf Club in Peru, Indiana.
Head coach Larry Hamilton expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming season: "We are all very excited to get the season started. This is a new event for us at a new course with a great field of teams competing alongside us." This year marks Hamilton's fourth season leading the WSU women's golf program, which was established in the fall of 2014.
The tournament will feature teams from various universities including Ashland, Central Missouri, Ferris State, Findlay, Florida Southern, Illinois Springfield, Indianapolis, Lewis, Maryville, McKendree, Northwood, Missouri-St. Louis, Parkside, Quincy, Tiffin, and Wayne State.
Wayne State's starting lineup includes:
- Claudia Portillo (Madrid, Spain) - Freshman
- Clarita Laffitte (Montevideo, Uruguay / Colegio Seminario) - Sophomore
- Orianna Bylsma (Montague, Mich.) - Junior
- Sabel Imesch (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South) - Junior
- Ting-Yu Kuo (Taipei, Taiwan / Taipei Municipal Zhong-zheng Senior) - Freshman
Sophia Wygonik (Westland, Mich. / Livonia Franklin [Eastern Michigan]) will compete as an individual participant and is a redshirt senior.
