The Wayne State University men's golf team recently participated in the Motor City Shakedown, held at TPC Michigan in Dearborn. The event saw 16 golfers from Wayne State competing against players from the University of Michigan-Dearborn on an 18-hole course. Notably, no team scores were recorded; instead, the focus was on individual performances.
Senior Mat Hawryluk, junior Max Leppelmeier, and senior Ian Smith delivered Wayne State's top official rounds, each scoring a 72. Freshman Andrew Daily achieved a remarkable score of 70 but played unaffiliated with the team. For Michigan-Dearborn, senior Mahmoud Saad led his team with a score of 81.
Wayne State's golfers displayed a range of scores: Adam Burghardt scored 73, Harrison Chapman 74, and Tyler Hurtubise 75. Other notable performances included Josh Lahner and Conor Spencer both scoring 76.
Michigan-Dearborn's participants also showcased their skills with Jason Cuppari and Brenden Pultorak each recording an 83. Mohamed Homayed and T. Hill followed closely with scores of 84.
Looking ahead, Wayne State will compete at the Ken Partridge Invitational hosted by the University of Indianapolis at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana. This three-day event is scheduled from April 7 to April 9 and will serve as preparation for the GLIAC Championships in Augusta, Michigan.
